Do Refugees Need Activists?

  • Upper Trust Hall, Pleasance, Edinburgh (map)

On average, every second someone is displaced by disaster. Countless conflicts are estranging people from their own homes, many without refuge secured elsewhere. As organisations run to provide support that governments fail to provide, People and Planet ask how much responsibility activists have for refugees, and whether (and how) those wanting to can meaningfully help.

The evening will run as a series of short presentations from groups across Edinburgh working to support refugees, followed by a talk by People and Planet addressing the title question 'Do Refugees Need Activists?'. The presentations will conclude with an open discussion on what refugees need, and whether we as activists can successfully provide this.

Additionally (and excitingly), tonight will be the launch of People and Planet Edinburgh's petition for the legal recognition of climate refugees. Please come along to sign the petition, and to find out more about the issue and how to support the campaign.

Can't wait to see you all there!
