Join Glasgow-based Artist Elisabeth Viguie Culshaw and learn to create beautiful crisp patterns on fabric and paper using leaves and a steaming process.
Eco printing is a natural process using botanical material and steam to transfer the pigment and texture of leaves onto fabrics or materials to create a beautiful pattern. No ink nor paint is used in the process and the result is stunning and unique.
We will harvest locally collected Scottish leaves and use natural dyes you can find readily available in your very own kitchen! You will have the opportunity to practice techniques on both paper and cloth and, using the practice as a guide, will then print onto a piece of cloth which will have been sewn together into your own unique lunch bag.
The workshop will begin with the sewing of a simple carry bag based on Chinese design before Ecoprinting and Ecodyeing this. This technique is suitable for small pieces of clothing and you are welcome to bring along your own small t-shirt or top to ecoprint for yourself – a great opportunity for remaking your own preloved clothing!
You don’t need any special skills to tackle this workshop although basic machine sewing skills are helpful with the construction of your bag. You will go home with some samples of your work on paper and fabric, which make beautiful framed home decorations, as well as a beautiful, personally designed bag!
