Coming Sunday, 3rd February, we are again campaigning against the massive use of single-use plastics by UK supermarkets.
Join us anytime between 2pm and 6pm at the Sainsbury's in Gorgie (Westfield Road 39, South-East entrance) if you are keen on sending a strong message that consumers have had enough of pointless plastics!
Over the past year, plastic as an issue has snowballed, with public awareness at an all-time high. ‘Single-use’ was named as the word of the year 2018 and the pulse of the single- use plastics issue is now firmly on supermarkets. A supermarket is where most people experience plastic packaging and they have the power to greatly reduce the amount they use. The petition calling on supermarkets to ditch throwaway plastic packaging is by far our biggest UK petition, with almost 800,000 signatures from members of the public. In 2018, Local Groups carried out activities at over 250 supermarkets across the UK, empowering customers to take this issue into their own hands and hand back plastic at the tills.
Sainsbury's among Tesco and Asda is rated worst on the plastics league table, which is why chose them for our campaign.
