Let's give Leith a spring clean to celebrate #EarthDay2019. Last year almost 400 people took part in 11 litter picks around Leith and collected more than half a tonne of litter from our streets. Can we break this record in 2019?
This workshop is run as part of the Zero Waste Leith project to make Leith a more vibrant town with zero waste at it’s heart, and is only available to those who work or live in Leith (postcode EH6).
The Old Quad of Edinburgh University will be lit up by world renowned artist Bruce Munro's Fireflies installation and the evening will include exhibitions of artwork by Derek Robertson RSW SSA and Iman Tajik, plus words by Marjorie Lofti Gill and music from Kuchke, a polyphonic Balkan choir. All artists and performers are kindly donating their work and time for the evening.
I know that a clean up was done round here recently so would be great to add further to those efforts!
In addition, I have permission from the council to plant some extra trees along the cycle path as there's some bald patches we could fill up, so would be great if we could also get them in!
In total I've purchased 45 native trees from the woodland trust - holly, hazel, wild cherry and rowan.
This talk will summarise the current crisis, look at the psychology behind our reactions to it, how creative people are addressing the issue of climate change crisis and how this is transferable to any discipline, the difference between personal actions and activism, the role of intersectionality and class war, why recycling might kill us off, and in a break with convention and the usual depressing environmental talks, actually give you the answer to solve it. It will be followed by a chance to discuss the issues. It will be truth: at turns depressing, informing and ultimately (I hope) uplifting.
